MP Ramesh Sangha is thrilled to that he has introduced his first Private Members’ Bill, Bill C – 344, An Act to amend the Department of Public Works and Government Services Act (community benefit).
Private Members’ Bills (or PMBs) are introduced to implement legislation that will benefit the community through social, economic, and strengthening the inner being. These bills are introduced in Parliament by MPs, outside of the cabinet, who support specific solutions of a private or public interest.
MP Sangha’s bill will strengthen collaboration between communities and infrastructure investment projects through Community Benefit Agreements (CBAs). CBAs create socio-economic opportunities for local communities and neighborhoods as well as environmental benefits.
These benefits will help to restore dignity to individuals by giving them the opportunity to acquire skills and gain meaningful employment. Ultimately, the community can boast a sense of ownership from these projects.
